The Owl Diner Charities was founded in 1992 by Tom Shanahan and a group of friends that gathered at the diner every morning to enjoy each others company. They would sit at a round table in the dinning area and discuss everything from their personal lives to world politics.
One day in 1992 it was suggested that they should do something that would provide a positive impact in the local community. So they came up with the idea to form a charitable organization that could provide assistance to families and local charitable organizations within the Merrimack Valley area. They decided that a golf tournament would be a great way to raise funds. They reached out to local businesses and individuals in the area for their support.
The first tournament was held in May of 1992 and was a huge success due to the generosity of the local community, businesses, and the members of the round table. Since then the charity has raised funds thru generous donations from local businesses, oldies dances, and the annual golf tournament.
We are proud to say we have provided more than 750,000 dollars to families and local charitable organizations within the Merrimack Valley area. The round table discussions are still held daily some of the faces have changed but the charity and its mission remains the same — raise funding for their needs.
